Interlude: It’s Because I Love Music!

I’ve been writing about Rolling Stone Magazine’s list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time for the better part of two years now. I’ve covered it all: outlaw country and gangster rap, music I love and music I hate, cross-country road trips and Stockholm Syndrome.

Why are you doing this? I sometimes ask myself. It’s because I love music! I reply, as though no one can see the madness entering my eyes.

This is my favorite thing to write, I often tell people, and it is. At the same time, it feels like my love of music has been taken hostage, at least lately. Like many music lovers, I tend to fixate on certain bands and albums in a way that methodically going down a list doesn’t really allow for. Remember when I reviewed that 5-hour Merle Haggard album? I’ve been binge-listening to Merle ever since. I’ve learned half of the songs on that record on the guitar. And yet I’m supposed to be moving on to the Breeders, even though my heart still belongs to Merle.

So what’s a girl to do? I’ll tell you what a girl’s to do: Change up her schedule. From now on, I’ll be releasing my reviews of the albums on the RS 500 list on Mondays and Fridays only.

But don’t fret! (Seriously, chill out.) This will allow me to do more writing over at the Riff and Rock ‘n Heavy. Maybe I’ll even write (gasp!) reviews of albums that AREN’T on the list.

So be on the lookout for more content from your favorite freaky little music writer.
